Counting crows is an American rock band that has been rocking the country with their fabulous music since 1993 with their debut “August and Everything After”, and Counting Crows also won an Academy Award for the great music in the animated movie, “Shrek 2″. Counting Crows band has originated from Berkeley, California and therefore has a great Californian touch to their music. When it comes to rock and music, it’s hard to beat the Counting Crows, as their album crossed the 20million dollar threshold.
Starting off as a small town band, the Counting Crows band actually consisted of Adam Duritz and David Bryson, who were an acoustic duo playing gigs in San Francisco. Their rise to fame began when they signed in to perform for Van Morrissonin 1993 and were later introduced into Hollywood by Robbie Robertson, and thus started their official band career.
The band had their name from an inspiration of a rhyme about the crow, in the movie, “Signs of Life.” The lyrics which inspired them were ” Well I dreamt I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow, casting shadows on the winter sky as you stood there, counting crows, one for sorrow, two for joy, three for girls and four for boys…..” The band is popularly known for their energetic, fun filled, live performances which have gained them a momentous amount of fans who love the acoustic touch to their music.
They write their own songs and when they perform, they add in extra verses or change the original song, in the middle of it during their live performances. This adds to the spice and fun of attending a Counting Crow’s performance. When Durtiz sang a tone that matched with the singing style of Van Morrison, it sparked off a wave of admiration as well as jealousy for the band where some people have been known to criticize the lead singer for being too imitative.
With this new found fame, the company did face a sudden influx of invasion to private life, issues, scandals, which left the lead song writer, having a writer’s block for almost 2 years. His struggles came up with the much awaited, “Recovering The Satellites” released in 1996, which was a claim to the return of the band. After this was the all time popular hit, “This Desert Life” which got the Counting crows into new age music and offering something that was current and trendy, much different from its earlier music.
